An update from the final practice of the season on the streets of Newcastle.

The Newcastle street circuit is notoriously tricky – its twists, turns and bumps always provide some excitement.

And if that wasn’t enough, the short 2.6-kilometre circuit meant times were closer than ever, with just 0.3-seconds separating the top 15.

Practice 2 – 5th–1:10.4237

“Today wasn’t too bad. It took me a while to get on the pace around here. We made some good in-roads after the first few laps on good tyres. We are a tenth off the pace at the moment, so if I drive to the best of my ability, I think we can be first. It’s just whether we can get the tyres up for turn one and do a good job.

“I’m actually super surprised at how close it is. The top eight are less than a tenth and a half so its super tight up the front. You just can’t make mistakes and have to maximize everything you’ve got. It’s going to be a tough qualifying session tomorrow. The race around here is so much about qualifying well; if you qualify well you are going to have a good result.”

Practice 2 – 11th– 1:10.5740

“The car was ok. There are really close margins so we’re looking for a little bit that should give a few positions, and I’m sure everyone is doing the same.

“We know the direction we need to go, we’ll just work on what we need to do and how to make it work because we go straight into qualifying tomorrow. It’s obviously risk versus reward on such a tight track. You can get quite aggressive, but it can hurt you too. We just need to find that little bit more.”
