Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds claimed his first pole position of the season and the 13thof his career with a last-minute dash today, though wasn’t able to hold onto it, claiming sixth in Race 17.

Teammate Anton De Pasquale crossed the line in 11thafter a surprising qualifying performance saw him outside the top ten for the first time in two rounds.

David lead the race from pole after a flying start and quickly drew out a gap of over 6-seconds to the next best, Scott McLaughlin.

Anton didn’t have the same luck though, getting caught up in the mid-pack and dropping back two places to 14thbefore the end of the opening lap.

With not much action on track, the pit strategy was set to spice things up, with two stops for fuel and tyres.

David dived into pit lane for his first stop at the end of lap 21, emerging back on track between Jamie Whincup (P1) and Scott McLaughlin (P3).

An extended stop for David though meant more fuel onboard and the opportunity to make it back after the second round of stops.

Anton followed the #9 Holden in two laps later and when sat 17thwhen the field eventually settled.

On fresh, cold tyres, McLaughlin began to close the gap to David and eventually completed a pass for second at Turn 3.

With a much speedier second stint, Anton got by Simona De Silvestro and Tim Slade within five laps and marched on to the second round of stops.

David lead the way at the end of lap 42 and with a fuel advantage, was due to pop out amongst the front-runners.

It wasn’t to be though, with a costly issue on the left-rear. He re-joined behind Coulthard after losing time in the stop.

Anton immediately shadowed his teammate and with no delays, rose to 11thwhen the final stops were played.

David wheeled his way to sixth while Anton trailed just outside the top ten until the checkered flag was raised on lap 70.

DAVID REYNOLDS – Started: 1st, Finished: 6th

“Anytime you can get pole position is good. I got a great start, had a really good first stint but the car didn’t maintain that throughout each stint after. We had a problem in the pit stop and lost a lot of time, after that I was stuck in 5thand 6thbut without the issue I think we could have definitely come home with a podium today. There are a lot of positives to take away from today though so I’m looking forward to trying it again tomorrow.”

ANTON DE PASQUALE – Started: 12th, Finished: 11th

“We are lacking a little bit of speed, we know what it is, but we need to work through it and improve it. It wasn’t too bad though, we were just ahead of midfield so wasn’t terrible but certainly wasn’t as good as we have been, and we can do better.

“I had an average first lap but had a good middle stint that got me back in the pack; I made a few spots but was racing the same guys all race. Our pace was about relevant for where we were so we will try make the car faster for tomorrow.”
