Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds has scored sixth place tonight at Barbagallo, just ahead of teammate Anton De Pasquale in 7th.
David, who racked up his 300thSupercars race start tonight, started from a disappointing 12th, and Anton 14th.
When the lights went out, drivers took dives left and right to try and gain positions early in the fight. David fell back to 14th, though made one spot back quickly, while Anton jumped to 12thin the opening laps.
With Anton in front, the young gun led his teammate through the pack, sitting just on the edge of the top ten as the first round of pit stops commenced.
Pitting as early as lap 11, De Pasquale was on the heels of Fabian Coulthard and as the top placed drivers of those who had pitted, he wouldn’t let the pressure up.
David pit later on lap 24, opting to go long, while an early stop for Anton started to play effect on his tyre life.
Sitting as high as 5thand unable to get much more out of the used tyre, the team reacted, and Anton pitted for a second time on lap 45.
David followed for back-to-back pit stops, only moments before the Safety Car was deployed for a car stopped at the last turn.
It came at an opportune time for the Penrite duo, both jumping the order to 7thand 8thin the standings.
Racing went green with 30 laps remaining, and big contact on the restart saw Kelly go across the grass on the straight, David now elevating to 6thand Anton 7th.
Action quickly settled and with no real tyre advantages throughout the field, it was mostly follow-the-leader for the entire journey home.
David Reynolds – Started: 12th, Finished: 6th
“The race started earlier than I saw it coming, so my start procedure wasn’t quite right, so I lost a couple spots on the start unfortunately. I had good pace though, my car was much better in that session than it had been previously this weekend. If we stuck with that setup at the start of the weekend, we could have tuned it a lot better.
“We had a good race though, watching Anton pass cars was good. We actually worked together to come through the field which was a lot of fun. I am happy with that result to end the weekend, we got lucky with a few cars misfortune’s, but we had the pace to keep that position, good pit stops and strategy; overall a good team effort.”
Anton De Pasquale – Started: 14th, Finished: 7th
“The start of the race was good, we picked up a couple of spots and we opted to pit pretty early and get clean air. It probably didn’t work out to be the best, but it was still good, and we did our own thing and stayed out of trouble and managed to make some spots.
“Some of the cars we passed were on the road, and then some trough strategy as well. Our race car was certainly better than our qualifying car, which was pretty similar to yesterday. Our race package was really good and we were probably one of the only cars making a lot of spots. There’s a bit to look at still but definitely a better Saturday than Friday.”
